Apparently I’ve been so busy with First Year Orientation, and starting second year of vet school that I neglected to provide an official welcome to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2014. Welcome! I had the opportunity to meet and get to know many of you during orientation and, though I apologize that I do not remember all of your names, I can tell you that you have an awesome class!
Something a little special (at least to me) about the Class of 2014 is that there are 4 alumni of the Claremont Colleges represented among the 135 students — 1 from Scripps College, 1 from Harvey Mudd, and 2 from my alma mater, Pomona College. (I feel like that has to be a record as the Claremont Colleges are liberal arts schools that don’t tend to be highly represented in the field of veterinary medicine.) In addition to working with these students during their week-long Orientation, I had the pleasure of being present for their official welcome into the veterinary profession at their White Coat Ceremony on September 8th, 2010 (see Photo).
Overall, I can say that I am very impressed with the Class of 2014 already — I look forward to working with them over the next 3 years and throughout our professional lives. Again, welcome to vet school at UC Davis and enjoy yourselves — these are sure to be some of the best four years of your life!
