In just a few days, the Class of 2015 will arrive early in the morning on the vet school campus at UC Davis to begin their journey to becoming veterinarians! I know there will be feelings of excitement and anxiety in those first days, and those feelings will predominate throughout their time in vet school, but starting on this endeavor is more reason to be excited than anything else. There is a lot of fun to be had during the first week, Orientation, and I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to serve as a student mentor for another year! We’ve got a bunch of third year students returning to help with orientation for the Class of 2015 and we have some first-time mentors joining us from the Class of 2014, so there will be a great variety of experience and knowledge at your disposal during that first week.
Of course, my one piece of advice: do not be shy with your student mentors — make friends with them and feel free to barrage them with all of your questions, no matter how strange or unusual you think they may be. We are here for you and want to make sure you have a fast and easy transition to vet school and feel comfortable with your classmates and peers as we are all colleagues now!
Get ready for a great time, Class of 2015! We’re ready for you and can’t wait to meet you!
